Pups4Patriots

On this Veterans Day we pause to give extra thanks to the men and women who have given and continue to give so much for us and our country.

Thanks to all of your support we are beyond humbled to share that we were able to rescue and fully fund our third service dog for a Veteran in need through the Pups4Patriots™ service dog initiative.

Meet Miguel and Arya

Miguel is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served from 2000 to 2004. During his enlistment, he served as an infantryman and was deployed to Iraq. He has been paired with “Arya,” a 3 year-old, female German Shorthaired Pointer.

We are beyond excited to be a small part of Miguel’s new journey and want to thank him, and Arya, for their service. Happy Veteran’s Day, Miguel! We are sending our best wishes to you and Arya!

Pups for Patriots

For some veterans, coming home as a civilian is only the beginning of another daunting battle. American Humane’s Pups4Patriots™ program rescues qualified shelter dogs in need of homes and trains them to be service dogs for veterans with Post-Traumatic Stress (PTS) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). In addition, the program awards grants to veterans requiring financial assistance to obtain and care for their service dog and provides them with insight and institutional support as they navigate the daunting process and life change.

A growing body of scientific research shows that specially trained PTS service dogs can reduce stress and anxiety levels, mitigate depression, ease social reintegration, provide comfort, and restore confidence in affected veterans.

Thankful

Taking the time to give back to those that have given us so much, is just a small token of the overwhelming appreciation this community has for the men and women of our Armed Services.

We look forward to continuing to support this program every year and can’t thank you all enough for helping us support such a great initiative.
